The People

The men and women of The Nature Place embrace an ethical responsibility toward nature and believe that there is a contagious, restorative value in bringing people to the natural world. We have a firm conviction that our guests will prosper from the experience. Our program staff cares for the natural world and is selected for their ability to safely teach leadership and team building principles through successful relationships, effective communication, and targeted expertise. We foster innovation and creativity in our guests, and channel these qualities to improve the organizations and institutions they serve. Our staff is committed to care for the services we provide, to communicate effectively, and to following through with what we say we will do.
Rob Jolly taught at the High Trails Outdoor Education Center and at Big Springs Boys’ camp (two other divisions of the Colorado Outdoor Education Center, the parent non-profit organization of The Nature Place) for a year before becoming the Director of The Nature Place in 1989. He canoed extensively in Canada while growing up, and before receiving his B.A. in Geology from Miami University. He was instrumental in creating the innovative team and leadership development programs that utilize an understanding of natural, human and economic systems. Currently, his diversions include rehabilitating a house built in 1904, backcountry telemark skiing, rock climbing, snorkeling, diving and sailing. He continues to actively study global social, economic, business and environmental trends. He also enjoys sharing his knowledge about the local geology, general natural history and astronomy.
Samantha Peck-
Sam is the newest member of The Nature Place family. After seven years as a military aviation officer, she and
her family have made Colorado their home.
Sam graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, New
York in 2004 and has been traveling the country ever since. Sam has a Bachelor of Science degree,
majoring in comparative politics.
She has completed several military schools to include Military
Intelligence Career Course, UH-60 flight training, SERE, Airborne, and winter
survival training. She enjoys
hunting, fishing, and hiking with her husband and three boys.
Shelley Churchill joined The Nature Place in 2001 as our front desk and Office Manager. She has over 20 years experience in accounting, customer and guest services. She studied Business and Accounting at the Community College of Aurora. Shelley‛s friendliness, organization and enthusiasm contribute greatly in her work as the Office Manager of The Nature Place. Shelley loves spending time with her family and animals and enjoys hiking, camping and fishing.
Kitchen Staff. Our kitchen staff has a combined 48 years of experience cooking at The Nature Place. They work hard to accommodate special dietary requests and take pride in their craft. Guests regularly comment how delicious the meals are that were that were created from fresh ingredients.
Housekeeping. Our housekeeping staff assures the comfort and enjoyment of our guests by accommodating and anticipating needs in a prompt, courteous manner. They perform daily touch-ups, in addition to cleaning, making beds and caring for the rooms and facilities.
Maintenance. Our maintenance staff is passionate about caring for our buildings and related systems. They also go the extra mile to make it happen!
